9th CEECOM conference calls for papers

The 9th CEECOM conference ”Media and communication studies: bridging disciplines, bridging countries”, taking place at the University of Tartu Institute of Social Studies on 15–18 June 2016, calls the participants for abstracts until 8 January 2016. The conference will provide a forum to exchange ideas and experience on inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in media and communication studies.

Contemporary developments in science and education policy signal that media and communication studies could play a central role in linking various disciplines and fields of science by helping to create a new understanding about the current processes in society and by offering solutions to various problems that individuals and societies are facing today.

There are several topics that are common to all countries—it could even be said that some topics create bridges across countries. Therefore, the conference will provide a forum to discuss how to carry out (comparative) research on the same topics in different countries with different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Can we ask: to what extent are the media and communication cultures in CEE countries comparable?

Individual paper proposals addressing one of the proposed topics should mention the topic in the proposal (other topics on CEE issues are welcome as well). Abstracts (200–400 words) will be evaluated by at least two members of the Scientific Committee. The deadline for the call for abstracts is 8 January 2016. The deadline for extended abstracts (600–1300 words) is 30 April.

In addition to traditional research papers, there will be a call for “Start-up research session”. Researchers are asked to submit extended abstracts concerning ideas and suggestions about innovative interdisciplinary approaches (ideas, questions, methods, samples, possible obstacles) to find like-minded potential colleagues and to offer new directions for future research.
